Competition entry for the new visual identity of the museum for contemporary art Pinakothek der Moderne in Münich for the design studio Surface in Frankfurt.

The goal was to create a contemporary and recognizable identity for the institution that houses four distinct museums with focus on art, graphic, architecture and design.The only restriction was to use the DIN typeface since it already is widely used by the museum.

The redesign combines the already available DIN typeface version with an alternative based on a nearly forgotten DIN cut called “die fette Breitschrift”. The new logo can be used as part of a flexible identity and combines the name of the institution with an abbreviation of the represented museum.
